Being one of the largest and fastest growing online communities, ePals was founded in 1996. K – 12 students and teachers across the world meet in the safe environment ePals provide them and safely collaborate with each other.
This year among their many projects, ePals in corporation with Team Earthorganized a contest for K – 12 students where students from around the world can express their opinions on a very serious subject, ‘Global Warming.’ The winning entries were delivered to world leaders and climate experts at the Copenhagen Climate Conference on a DVD.
There were 497 entries in PPP, video and audio format. All the entries were impressive and addressed the issue.
My Grade 7 student, Deniz K. was very willing to enter the competition and she wrote a poem to convey her message. She writes stories and poems as a hobby, so she decided that poetry would be a very effective media to convey her message to the leaders. She recorded her poem at school, and we submitted her entry.
Her work was chosen as one of the top 15 winners overall and was compiled on a DVD to be handed to the world leaders. Click here to listen to her poem in English. I’m so proud of her. Once again I witnessed how powerful and confident the new generation is. They have all the good qualities that most of us don’t have. Congratulations to Deniz and to all the other students who were brave enough to have a say in a serious matter that keeps getting worse and worse.
